First and foremost, BCAAs (abbreviation for branched chain amino acids ) are essential for humans. This means that they have to be absorbed with food and the body cannot produce them themselves. Unlike all other amino acids, BCAAS are metabolized directly and not indirectly in the liver. This means they can get directly into the muscle cell. In addition, the BCAAs make up the highest proportion of amino acids in muscle tissue.

Two main aspects are important for the athlete:

1. From BCAAs, the metabolism can produce glucose and this is especially important during the stress and in the low carb diet phase. Then the availability of glucose may be limited and then BCAAs from the muscle tissue would be used ( so-called gluconeogenesis ) to provide more glucose. 2. BCAAs and especially L-leucine solve growth processes in the human body by activating an important enzyme called “mTor”. Put simply, this enzyme is the starting point for protein synthesis. Added to this is the higher levels of BCAAs that stimulate insulin release and insulin is one of the strongest anabolic hormones in the body.
